I recently came across a blog (retired in America) that outlined ways to use your money once you retire. Some of these are in my own plans while there are some others that I had never considered. We all need a plan and these are a good starting point. You can find the full article here:
Here are a few of my favorites with some of my own THOUGHTS:
1 – Travel “Someday” is now – start planning the trip that you always dreamed about. Need some help? Take a look at my Travel Guides offered on our website. They are carefully curated and offer the best deals, tricks and experiences for your “trip of a lifetime”.
2 – Start a Side Hustle Personally, I cannot ski, travel and play golf all of the time. I need to be doing something. We all have something that we’ve said “I’ll do that when the kids are gone….or when I have the time…” That time is now. Go for it! The worst that will happen is that you don’t love it the way you thought you would….nothing ventured…nothing gained, right?
3 – Contribute to a Charitable Cause You can do this with either money or by volunteering your time. And, you get to learn a new skill in the process. Great to keep our brains working and challenged.
4 – Delay Taking Social Security If you can afford to, wait until you turn 70 before signing up for social security – it amounts to about an 8% return on what you will receive. At the very least wait until your full retirement age before collecting social security. As always discuss this with your tax / financial professional.
5 – Invest in Yourself Buy those clothes that you have always wanted. Want lasik eye surgery or dental implants – just do it! Take that course you’ve had your eye on FOREVER. Take action.
6 – Take Care of Yourself Get regular physicals and eye exams. Do some form of exercise on a regular basis. Ok, I am the WORST patient EVER. But, this is the time to be proactive rather than dealing with a larger problem later.
