REAL FOOD OR “FOOD LIKE?”
EVERY year thousands of new products are launched in our grocery stores. 70 to 80% of these items will fail and be pulled from the shelves. But, those that remain could be “food like” rather than actual, nutritious whole food items. Most of these engineered “foods” are not created by nature but made in a lab. The majority are designed by food scientists and not chefs, and that photo of the cute Italian Lady in her apron or the celebrity chef smiling with pride does not guarantee that it’s real food!
So, what are we to do about this? Be educated and be sure to read every label. If you cannot spell or pronounce it .. leave it on the shelf.
One of the biggest concerns with these products is that many of the chemical additives in these packaged foods are not substances our bodies recognize or know how to process. Hello bloating or weight gain.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀What can we do?
*Don’t buy any product containing anything you cannot pronounce.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
*Avoid products with SUGAR in the top 3 ingredients.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
*No More than 5 ingredients in your product.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
*Steer away from “low fat” labeling as it usually means they add more sugar for taste. ⠀⠀
*No FAKE products… margarine, etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
*If you’ve seen it on TV….walk away.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you just cannot control a craving for a bag of chips or small chocolate (is there such a thing?) every once in a while….no worries. Enjoy! Unless you are buying these every.single.day. you are good.
What foods are ok to buy?
Super simple. Eat food you recognize…eat something from every color. Eat fresh food.⠀⠀
