Virtual Trip to Angor Wat …

Angkor Wat, one of the wonders of the world, is located in Cambodia near the city of Siem Reap.  It is a must see place for anyone visiting Southeast Asia.  The site is the largest religious monument in the world.  Built in the 12th century by the Khmer Empire, it was originally a Hindu Temple and was transformed into a Buddhist Temple by the end of the Century.

Like many Southeast Asian sites, it was gradually overgrown by the surrounding jungle.  It was rediscovered by a French explorer in 1860.  Since then there has been an ever increasing restoration of the site, interrupted by war and regime changes.  Angkor Wat is now a World Heritage site.

Siem Reap is easily reached from either Singapore via Singapore Airlines or Bangkok Air through Bangkok.  Plan to spend at least 2 full days exploring the area.  Exceptional lodging can be found in Siem Reap – we have stayed at the Park Hyatt Siem Reap.  Other notable places are Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor and Belmond La Residence d’Angkor.  All can be booked through our favorite Virtuoso site   (Cut and paste into your browser)
