TWO THINGS I DO TO BRAVE THE COLD.
Getting outside when the temps drop for any kind of exercise can be challenging.
But, there are a few simple little tricks I use to stay out of the “icicle” zone when running outside (I can almost hear my treadmill calling me … but, the call to run with gal pals wins out almost every time!)
BE WEATHER SAAVY
Check your local forecast BEFORE you lace up those shoes. Hypothermia can strike if the sunny take off turns quickly to cold and wet finish.
HAVE LASER FOCUS
REALLY tune in to your body temperature. When you work out outside and sweat or it’s windy, you can lost site of just how cold you might be…if your skin is cold to the touch, add a layer or two. If you are sweaty or clammy or your clothes are sweaty change or get inside.
PLAY IT SMART
If the weather changes dramatically during your run, increase the intensity by speeding up and getting home before the conditions put you at risk for hypothermia.
I have quite a few friends who are firm about running or walking outdoors. I get it. It’s just more fun! But, if your path is icy or the weather is changing quickly – be safe and give your treadmill some love.
